Riton's a little-known scope manufacturer, but they've introduced a number of popular scope configurations -- in particular, this one: The Riton X1 Conquer, featuring 6-24x variable power with a 50mm objective lens, and reticle sporting MOA subtensions. But at the "entry-level" price it commands, can it stand up to trusted competitors from Vortex (the Viper HST), Sightron (the SIII), Bushnell (the Match Pro), or even Leupold's lower-powered VX Freedom?
The X1 Conquer At a Glance
The X1 Conquer maintains a typical profile, closely matching most other 6-24x50 scopes in the "under $1,000" range. At 477 grams (16.8 oz), the Conquer weighs a fair bit less than comparable scopes. this writer's Sightron SIII 6-24x50 weighs about 24.3 ounces. The Viper HST weighs around 22.6 oz.

The Conquer comes with a zero top ring for the elevation turret, a flush screw to cap the magnification ring's threaded throw lever mounting hole, a microfiber cloth, and an Allen key for removing the turret caps to set your zero.
Ocular Lens & Focus
The ocular lens on the X1 scope is ground well and polished before the multi-coating is applied. There are no artifacts or fish-eye lens effects visible to the viewer, and chromatic aberration is minimal, even at 24x. Exit pupil measures 8.2mm at 6x and 2.1mm at 24x. Estimated eye relief measures 3.9", or 10mm. Overall, the ocular lens provides excellent clarity and sharpness for the SFP reticle.
The fast-focus eye provides good clarity and adjustment, with a relatively wide field of range. The adjustment feels fluid and provides modest resistance against unwanted movement.
As advertised, the Riton X1 provides an excellent range of magnification from 8x to 24x. The MOA reticle provides accurate subtensions and holdovers at 24x, only.
Like the focus ring, the magnification ring provides fluid motion and stays put when set. The threaded throw lever can be removed and replaced with a flush-mount cap screw.
The X1's windage and elevation turrets provide solid, positive clicks with each 1/4-MOA adjustment (0.25" at 100 yards). The total adjustment range for either turret is +/- 67 MOA. Adjustments are clearly marked with laser-engraved white markings. There is no creep or "slop" between clicks, ensuring each single adjustment provides an accurate amount of MOA travel.
Setting The Zero Stop
To set the zero stop on elevation, the scope must first be zeroed. Then, the elevation turret cap can be removed with the provided Allen key.
With the cap removed, the threaded turret post is exposed. The rubber O-ring must be carefully removed to allow clearance for the zero stop to be threaded onto the post. The O-ring should be removed with a plastic clip, or the edge of a credit card. Avoid using sharp pliers or a metal implement, as this can cut or tear the O-ring.
Finally, the zero can be threaded onto the turret post. There are two small set screws within the stop that must be threaded outward, to ensure good clearance.
Once the zero stop is resting at the base of the turret, tighten each set screw. Then reinstall the turret cap, ensuring the "0" markings are aligned with the base of the turret.
The Riton R3 Reticle (SFP)
The MOA "R3" reticle provided in the X1 Conquer is phenomenal. This writer compares it directly to his (much more expensive) Sightron SIII. Subtension markings are perfectly accurate, having been verified with a sight-in target at 100 yards on 24x power. At full power, the second-focal plane reticle provides easy-to-read measurements.
The center dot measures 1/4 MOA, while the distance between each subtension measures 1 MOA. The height of the small subtensions measures 2 MOA, while the tall subtensions measure 4 MOA in height.
Like its ocular lens, the X1 Conquer's objective lens sports a perfect grind and polish, with an effective multi-coat lens that reduces UV transmission and enhances clarity. Low-light levels are good, comparable to more expensive options (like the SIII and Vortex Viper PST). The objective lens lip is threaded for an optional sunshade, sold separate.
With the focus eyepiece at full extension (~0.5" from the tube), the X1 Conquer's total length, without lens covers, measures just under 14.5".
Is the Conquer X1 Good Enough?
This writer says, "Yes." Above is the Riton Conquer X1 on the left, and the Sightron SIII (6x-24x50) on the right. Both optics are being viewed at 24x in very low-light conditions at a distance of 100 yards. The SIII provides a picture of the target that's just barely sharper downrange, but the difference is minor.
The Riton X1 suffers less chromatic aberration and glow/bloom around the edges of bright objects. Its reticle's clarity and sharpness is identical to that of the Sightron. In fact, the Riton's subtensions may be a bit sharper and clearer.
This comparison is significant: The Riton X1 comes in at around $250, while the SIII series of scopes starts at about $1,000 for a model with comparable specs and features. That makes the X1 Conquer a scope that competes with a mid-top-tier model, but with a retail price that's 75% cheaper.
