Shooting Eye and Ear Protection

Owning quality eye and ear protection is one of the first boxes you need to check before stepping onto the outdoor or indoor range. Most shooting ranges require eyes and ears to be protected at all times. You don't want to bust an ear drum or schedule cornea surgery because of an airborne 9mm casing anyway. But that doesn't mean you need to spend an arm and a leg on gear to get great protection from blindness or hearing loss. We took the outdoor and indoor shooting muffs and glasses we sell and tried them out at the range ourselves, making sure they provide the right protection and comfort at a good price.

PASSIVE AND ACTIVE HEARING PROTECTION

New shooter? Here’s the down-low: protection for hearing when in the range is divided into three types: ear plugs for in-ear protection, passive protection, and active protection. Passive shooting muffs (like the Leightning L3 headset) are the most affordable and easy to use among most ear protection gears. Just throw it on and start hammering rounds downrange. Passive protection helps in noise reduction with no electronics, and it'll never fail. See Our Top Picks for Ear Pro (with Customer Feedback!) for the best hearing damage protector and electronic ear protection.

If you want to have conversations with your buddies while the range is "hot" (or you’re participating in a class or competition), you’ll need more situational awareness. That calls for active protection: electronic shooting muffs that filter out all the gunfire sounds and ear-ringing while keeping quiet noises and voices crisp and clear, even amplified if they’re too quiet. Recommendations? The Peltor Sport 100s are a crowd favorite for noise filtering.

DON’T FORGET THE SHOOTING GLASSES

It's safe to say your eyes are even more important than your ears when it comes to slinging rounds downrange. Investing in a proper pair of shooting glasses is a requirement, plain and simple. We sourced quality, high-visibility lenses with certified protection ratings to ensure you have the right eye pro on the firing line. Most importantly, we test-fitted our eye and ear pro together. You've probably dealt with trying to make your shooting glasses fit nicely underneath those shooting muff ear cups. Rest assured, we dealt with the frustration for you by sticking with thin, flexible frames and soft, molded ear cups in our shooting muffs for the best shooting ear protection.

TESTED AND APPROVED FOR EVERY BUDGET

Tired of hunting for the "perfect" gear? Scouring 5-star ratings on Amazon, wondering whether they're fake? Forget all that, you should be buying from a company that actually knows the gear it sells. We hit the range and tried out particular ear and eye pro choices from top names in the industry (Howard Leight, Peltor and 3M, and Walker’s) at low and high price points. We also sourced customer feedback in our review up above.

Whether you want a simple pair of clear safety glasses and passive muffs to protect your hearing or a high-speed set of active ear pro and glasses with vermilion lenses or a pair of Ear Buddy foam earplugs, we cater with quality to all shooters. Even if you’re squeezing pennies on gear to get more boxes of ammo, you can shoot assured knowing the best ear protection and eye protection gears recommended by Tactical Made will keep you safe behind the trigger.
