Surefire® EP4 Sonic Defenders Plus Flanged Earplugs—Medium

Tested and certified hearing protection with triple-flanged comfort.

What does all that mean? That means the EP4 Sonic Defender Plus ear plugs have passed the ANSI STD S3.19-1974 test standards to certify their noise reduction rating (NRR) of 24 decibels. If you’re new to shooting ear pro, this is a pretty significant level of protection from potentially harmful noises—and these Sonic Defenders cost a fraction of the price of full earmuffs and active ear pro.

Discover what noise reduction rating is all about. Read the shooter’s guide to hearing protection.

Activate and Deactivate Protection in Seconds, Just like Active Ear Pro

Active hearing protection can cost hundreds of dollars. Most active ear pro comes in the form of earmuffs with electronics built in. The EP4s provide similar performance at a chunk of the price, thanks to removable filter caps that can be single-handedly inserted in a few seconds. This allows you to retain situational awareness in noisy environments and have normal conversations when you're not sending rounds downrange. Taking care of your hearing health and protecting yourself from noise-induced hearing loss should not cost you an arm and a leg.

How Are These Different from the EP3 Sonic Defenders?

The EP4 Sonic Defenders Plus provide a triple-flange ear fit, as opposed to the EP3’s double-flange. This provides a tighter lockup inside the ear canal, allowing for rapid movement and long-term wear without the risk of your plugs falling out. The EP3 and EP4 plugs both provide 24 decibels of noise reduction, but the EP4’s ratings are certified.

Additional Specs and Features

  • Noise-reducing filter: provides 24-decibel NRR with noise filter caps inserted
  • Reliable ear protection: lowers potentially dangerous noises above 85 decibels
  • Patented EarLock maintains ear contact without pressure points.
  • Low-profile design allows for easy shouldering and shooting.
  • Includes carrying case and polymer lanyard for carrying
  • Size based on the ear’s concha bowl: medium fits most.

The EP3 Sonic Defenders are compatible with certain comms, including the following: Thales Covert Security Harness, Harris Security Force Communication Set, Motorola surveillance kits, Tactical Command Industries tactical earpiece products, Peltor Lightweight Systems-Hearplug, and Silynx C4Ops Headset.
